The 27th edition of the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Championship kicked off in style on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Hockey National grounds in Kampala.

The tournament, themed “Championing better community health and behavior through sports,” promises to be an exciting celebration of volleyball and sportsmanship.

Hosts Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC C) stole the show with two impressive wins, including a 3-0 victory over Sky Volleyball Club and another 3-0 win over COBAP, securing their quarterfinal berth.

KAVC C’s coach, David Okot, praised his players for sticking to the plan and performing well in the opening games.

“I’m pleased that the players adhered to the instructions and remained committed to our strategy.

We deliberately adopted a cautious approach in the initial games to minimize the risk of injuries, particularly given the absence of one of our key middle blockers.

As the games progressed, the team gained momentum, and everyone rose to the challenge in the second match.

Our goal was to navigate the group stage smoothly and secure a favorable quarterfinal matchup.

While the tournament will undoubtedly become more intense at the semi-final stage, our objective this year is to reach the final, and we’re working diligently towards achieving that goal,” said Okot.

The quarterfinal matches are set to be intense, with the following fixtures:

– KAVC C Vs St. Charles Lwanga Ntiinda: KAVC C looks to continue their winning streak against St. Charles, who stunned KAVC L in the group stages.

– KCCA vs. Police Rwanda: KCCA faces a tough challenge against Police Rwanda in a highly anticipated matchup.

– Rukinzo vs. Chema: Burundi’s Rukinzo takes on Kenya’s Chema in a battle of skilled teams.

– Police Uganda vs. Equity: Police Uganda looks to outmaneuver Equity in a closely contested match.

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has committed a significant 120 million Uganda shillings to support the tournament, with a total prize money of 46 million shillings.

The champions in both men’s and women’s categories will pocket 10 million shillings each, while the first and second runners-up will take home 7 million and 5 million shillings, respectively.

The tournament features 48 teams from five countries, including Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, South Sudan, and Uganda, competing in three categories: clubs, corporate, and primary schools.

The defending champions, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), will look to retain their titles.

With its rich history dating back to 1995, the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Championship continues to be a premier volleyball event in the region, promoting healthy lifestyles and positive behavior through sports.
