Hosts Namagabi,  Kawempe settle for draws on day one of UMEA Solidarity Games in Kayunga

The 37th edition of the UMEA Solidarity Games has kicked off at Namagabi Secondary School in Kayunga, with 47 Muslim-based schools makinh 105 teams from Uganda participating in the championship.

The tournament’s official opening match saw hosts Namagabi Secondary School rescue a point against Aringa SS, thanks to a brace from skipper Wasswa Hassan Kitega.

Aringa SS had taken a 2-0 lead through Dairo Hassan and Muhammad Yaba, but Wasswa Hassan scored a penalty and then headed in a late equalizer to secure a 2-2 draw for Namagabi.

In another match, Kawempe Muslim SS came from behind to draw 2-2 with Kasana Vocational School. Sudaisi Balikoowa had given Kasana the lead, but Mutebi Abdulahuman equalized for Kawempe.

Kasana retook the lead through Emmanuel Kapere, only for Ssekitooleko Ryan to score a dramatic equalizer for Kawempe.

Mbogo Mixed topped Group H after beating Bilal Islamic 4-0. Other results included Kyantamba SS’s 1-0 win over Nkoma SS, Kyadondo SS’s 4-1 victory over Kasawo, and Sseke SS’s 5-0 thrashing of Kisaasi Muslim.

The group stage matches will continue tomorrow on various grounds.
