The 2025 Wakiso District Qualifiers to the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National basketball championship commenced on Thursday morning at Elite High School and Bethany Covenant in Entebbe, showcasing an array of thrilling matches.

Reigning Wakiso and FEASSA champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana made a resounding statement, trouncing Gayaza High School 57-08 in the most lopsided victory of the day.

This impressive win surpassed the second-largest margin of victory, achieved by newcomers Zana Mixed Secondary School, who defeated Mbogo Mixed 48-15.

Zana Mixed’s triumph marked the second-most decisive win on day one, demonstrating their potential as a force to be reckoned with in the competition.

Meanwhile, national reigning champions St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School-Kitende asserted their dominance, beating Exodus College 21-06 to register their first win.

The 2017 and 2018 FEASSA champions, Buddo SS, also secured a convincing 25-05 victory against hosts Elite High School, who had earlier triumphed 24-08 over Trinity College Nabbingo in their opener.

Gayaza High School rebounded from their initial loss to St. Noa Girls, defeating Bethany High School 22-10 to return to winning ways.

The competition resumes today, culminating in the semi-finals on Saturday, followed by the finals later the same day.

The football climax will take place at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium.
