Lugazi FC secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Express FC in matchday nineteen of the Uganda Premier League at the Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.

Sharif Saaka’s stunning first-half goal proved decisive, as Lugazi completed a league double over Express with an identical scoreline.

The win marked a return to winning ways for Lugazi, following a 2-0 defeat to NEC FC in their previous outing.

The victory propelled Lugazi to 11th position with 23 points, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.

Express, on the other hand, occupies fifth spot with 28 points.

The match was filled with scoring opportunities, with goalkeepers from both sides producing outstanding performances.

Express’s Richard Basangwa and Samuel Ssenyonjo saw their gilt-edged chances thwarted by goalkeeper Mutebi, as the visitors failed to find the back of the net.

The turning point arrived one minute from the end of the first half, as Sharif Saaka netted a sublime goal.

Beating his marker with his first touch inside the box, Saaka unleashed a powerful, curling shot with his left foot that left the goalkeeper with no chance, sending the hosts into the lead.

In the second half, Lugazi effectively managed their slim advantage to secure maximum points.

Lugazi will travel to face Mbale Heroes on Friday, March 13th, while Express will host Police FC on the same day.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League matchday nineteen continues on Friday, with NEC visiting struggling Wakiso Giants and URA FC welcoming UPDF FC in Nakivubo.

Elsewhere, Yunus Ssentamu Junior’s solitary strike guided Vipers to a win over Police in Kavumba, maintaining their top spot.
