Fresh from their thrilling 63-60 win over Cape Verde, the Uganda men’s senior basketball national team, the Silverbacks, are riding high on momentum.

Robinson Opong and Ishmail Wainwright were instrumental in Uganda’s victory, with Opong scoring 22 points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist, while Wainwright added 16 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.

The Silverbacks are now on the cusp of securing a spot in the FIBA Afrobasket final tournament, set to take place later this year in Angola.

A victory over Nigeria this evening at the Grand Hall Tripoli in Libya would cement their place in the prestigious competition.

With their sights set on making history, the Silverbacks are poised to give it their all and secure a spot in the final tournament.

Silverbacks head coach Mandy Juruni is optimistic about his team’s chances against Nigeria.

“We have played Nigeria several times, just like Cape Verde. We just have to know how we are going to approach the game.

We’ll show the boys previous results against Nigeria to remind them that we have beaten them before. If we play together, do our job, and compete, we’ll be in a good position. Our mindset is to win the game in front of us.”

A win over Nigeria would mark Uganda’s third time qualifying for the FIBA Afrobasket tournament.

The game tips off at 7 pm this evening, and Uganda will be looking to build on their momentum and overcome Nigeria.
