In an all Ugandan final affair, Makerere University beat Uganda Christian University 5-3 on penalties to be crowned the 2024 East African University women football champions.

The two sides played for a goalless draw in normal time at Maseno University in Kisumu.

Meanwhile, Kampala University settled for a bronze medal after beating the hosts, Maseno University 1-0 in the third place playoff.

The men’s football final shall be played on this Friday morning.

Uganda Martyrs University and Makerere University will take their domestic rivalry to Kisumu as the two sides battle for this year’s trophy.

To reach the final, UMU won 2-0 against Kenya’s Ardhi while Makerere University beat IUIU 4-2 after penalties.

The all Uganda affair semi-final ended goalless in the normal time.

In the 3rd Classification match, Islamic University in Uganda won a bronze medal after beating Ardhi University 6-5 in penalties following a 1-all draw in normal time.

Elsewhere, Ndejje University defended their trophy in men’s handball while Kampala University settled for a silver medal in the women’s category after losing to Kenyatta University 28-25 in the final.

The tournament will climax today. Ndejje University tops the medals table with a total of 65 medals, 23 of them are gold.

United States International University (Kenya) comes second with 14 gold medals, Makerere University and UCU tie at 09 gold medals in third and fourth respectively and Gulu in 5th with eight gold medals.

The other Uganda’s Universities with gold medals include; Makerere University Business School (6 gold medals), Bishop Stuart with two gold medals.
