Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ball Games II have this Thursday evening, the 11th July 2024 been officially opened at Soroti Grounds.

The official opening ceremony was officiated by Rev. Canon Doctor Duncan’s Mugumya the Commissioner Physical Education and Sports who represented the State Minister for Sports Hon. Peter Owgang.

“I thank the Government Of Uganda because it has improved funding in our activities to allow these games take place with a large number of athletes participating.

We thank the government for the peace.

And I also thank USSSA for conducting Capacity Building programs, training referees, media officers, improving young talents etc.

The fight to eliminate non bona fide players is on and any culprits will be arrested.

I encourage all of you to develop your talents and avoid deployment of non students in school games.” Rev. Canon Dr. Duncans Mugumya,  Commissioner Physical Education and Sports and Chief guest.

Six sports disciplines including Basketball 3×3 and U16, Athletics, Rugby 7s, Handball, Volleyball, Netball.

315 teams composed of 3389 girls and 1949 boys making a total of 5,338 athletes.

Capacity building students are 600 girls and 269 boys.  The overall total of individuals is 6228.

Justus Mugisha, the USSSA President also commended government for its contribution to schools sports.

“I thank the government of Uganda for ensuring that these games are a success through the Ministry of Education and Sports.

This year, we have had a number of events namely; Elite Games, Fresh Dairy Games, National Football Championship, ISF athletics that were held in Kenya, ISF Football in China, CAF football championship in Zanzibar, and ISF Basketball in Macao, China.

We are now heading to the non FEASSSA Qualifiers which will be hosted by the same school, Teso College Aloet in September.” Justus Mugisha, USSSA President.
