Airtel Masaza Cup: Buluuli stuns Bulemeezi in the opener

Robert Ssewanyana scored the all important goal Buluuli stunned rival neighbors Bulemeezi 1-0 in the 2024 Airtel Masaza Cup opener.

The hugely attended tie was held at Kosovo Grounds in Kasana Luweero on Saturday, the 22nd June 2024.

Buluuli controlled the entire game basing on their solid Midfielder Muhammad Kanyike who was also the man of the match.

Buluuli will look forward to replicate their 2011 Masaza Cup glory when they first and last won the title.

Despite losing the opener at home, Bulemeezi have won the tournament three times in 2012, 2019 and lately in 2023.

This is the 20th  Edition of the  Masaza Cup having witnessed the first in 2004.

 

However, the demand for Kabaka from his different subjects was another highlight at the opener.

The tournament comprising of 18 counties of Buganda Kingdom pooled into three groups will run up to 26th October.

While addressing the media after the game, premium sponsors Airtel Uganda’s sales & distribution director Ali Balunywa, said,

“As Airtel, we are pleased to see the quality of the game showcased in this tournament over the years.

The magnitude of supporters who come out to support their counties is totally amazing and this keeps us moving”.

Action will continue next weekend  29th June 2024. Buvuma will take on Mawokota, and Butambala will play Buddu at Kibibi.
