FUFA Women Super League defending champions Kampala Queens started their title defence with a controversial win against Uganda Martyrs Lubaga.

The tie held on sun morning, the 15th October 2023 at Philip Omondi Stadium ended 2-1 in favor of the host.

Kampala Queens came from a goal down to win a highly contested tie.

Latifah Nakassi sent the visitors into a 1-0 lead to put misery onto host. However, celebrations were short lived as the day’s center referee awarded a highly protested dubious penalty.

Shamirah Nalugya converted from the penalty mark for Kampala Queens to level the game to 1-1.

In the final bend of the tie, former Uganda Martyrs winger Nadagya Catherine put her former bosses onto a sharp sword to scored the second for Kampala Queens.

Lillian Kasuubo scored a hat-trick  and a brace from Millicent Namwemba as She Maroons white washed Asubo Gafford Ladies in a 5-0 win.

This was the biggest win and highest scoring tie of match-day one.

Elsewhere, record champions Kawempe Muslim Ladies beat Rines SS WFC 2- 3 in the day’s greatest entertainment five goal thriller.

Hadijah Babirye, Agnes Nabukenya, Phionah Nabulime were on target for Kawempe Muslim ladies whilst Catherine Wujja and defender Shakira Nankwanga who with an own goal produced Rines goals.

Wakiso Hill WFC suffered a 1-0 loss against Makerere University at home at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende while UCU Lady Cardinals settled for a goalless draw with Lady Doves in the season opener on Saturday at Mukono.
