The 2025 Uganda Boxing National Novices has officially boxed off today, Monday, September 1st, at Lugogo, marking a significant milestone in the country’s boxing development.

This year’s edition has made history, featuring a record-breaking 955 boxers from 70 clubs across the country.

The National Novices is a cornerstone of Uganda’s boxing development, providing young athletes with a valuable opportunity to test their skills against their peers and gain valuable experience.

Michelle Nakkazi, the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) Competition Manager, emphasized the importance of this event in nurturing future champions.

“We commenced with the novices weighing in on Saturday, registering a remarkable 955 boxers. 

Today marks the first day of action, featuring approximately 160 bouts involving 300 boxers.

The competition will continue throughout the week, culminating in finals on Saturday, 6th September,” Nakkazi stated.

The male boxers (855) have outnumbered the female boxers (100), but the participation of both genders is a testament to the growing interest in boxing.

The one-week championship will climax this Saturday, September 6th, at Lugogo Indoor Stadium, where the best boxers will compete for the top prizes.

The event is a celebration of boxing talent, with young athletes showcasing their skills and determination.

The Uganda Boxing Federation’s commitment to developing the sport is evident in the success of this event, which promises to produce future champions.
